    I suspect I misinterpreted you. No You cant use the PUP to downgrade a machine running 5.5. The device will only accept PUPs that are equal to or newer than the build installed currently. Even once you remove the hard drive it will still require whatever frimware you are on or newer. In short no.

You just need the Recovery PUP for the Firmware you are currently on (or a newer build if you plan on updating the system software) jailbreakers will want to retain...

    Yes You can upgrade the internal drive USING the 5.05 RECOVERY pup this will disable your current Drive when you initalize the new one so be absolutely sure to backup everything important to you FIRST!
