how many controllers, wired not wireless

Hi!
I have searched this question but did not find an answer.

How many wired controllers can the ps4 slim take, there are 2 usb ports, so is two the answer, or can splitters be used so that multiple wired controllers can be plugged into one port and this leaves the second port for hard drives
