This is an open-source mod. The full source, including documentation, can be found in the listed Github repo.

This mod connects upward-facing surface contact to the game's native stratagem deployment and attachment interfaces. Bypasses the built-in invisible navigation map that Helldivers 2 uses to determine what a "valid" surface is. Vertical walls and undersides do not qualify.

Install: Close the game and extract the ZIP into the Helldivers 2 game folder (Steam → Manage → Browse local files), merging bin and data. Launch normally. No configuration or extra loader is needed.

The portable-v8 prerelease supports Windows x64, Steam build 24826606 / EXE 1.8.45317.0.

AI disclosure: GPT-6 Astra was used for this project's research, implementation, debugging, and documentation.

For anyone wondering what the difference between this mod and the original stratagem mod fix is:

The original mod adjusts the entity type of the stratagem ball to behave like a sticky grenade. However, this behavior is incorrect and likely the cause of many bugs people experienced (including no change at all).

The real reason for the "bounce" is actually due to a navmesh check that Helldivers 2 performs when throwing a stratagem component specifically. When playing, there is an invisible "map" on the surface which tells the engine whether to reject the ball or accept its deployment. When rejected, the game engine apply a "bounce" to the ball as it tries to find a valid surface.

This mod bypasses that navmesh check, and instead performs its own directional collision check of the contact surface to determine what a valid surface is (up for flooring, down for ceilings, or sideways for walls).

This enables players to actually place their stratagems where they throw them, instead of adhering to an arbitrary (and broken) navmesh map that the player has no insight into, without affecting the underlying entity type like the original mod.

What do you mean by merging bin and data? Do I just extract into the game folder and launch the game?

Does this affect teammates as well?
I haven't had time to test on my second machine whether Helldivers 2 replicates the host's behavior towards clients (and vice versa). I should have an answer to this tomorrow.

When you drag and drop to your game folder, you'll be asked if you want to merge the folders (bin and data). Just hit yes and you're all good to play.

When I do that is just gives me an option to replace the files or skip them. Can I just drag them in manually or use mod manager?

This MOD has some extra effects in certain situations. Today while using it against the Automatons, I ran into a jammer tower. I landed on a mountaintop — a spot where you normally can’t throw a stratagem ball. Combined with this MOD, if the ball you throw lands in a place that’s normally undeployable *and* that spot happens to be covered by an Automaton jammer, your stratagems deploy without going on cooldown. In other words, you can force-deploy inside the jammer’s range. Honestly this MOD is a bit insane, but I still really admire the work you put into it.

You can just replace them. The mod doesn't touch any of Helldivers 2's game files, so there's no chance of it corrupting anything and it can easily be removed.

As for mod manager support, unfortunately it's just not possible due to the .dll file needing to be included in the game directory. As far as I know, Arsenal doesn't support this. If/when it does, I'm happy to add support for it though.

I'll take a look at this tomorrow. From a surface glance it's probably a side effect of the way the mod aggressively bypasses the navmesh check. I'll work on pushing a hotfix once I've had the chance to test. Appreciate the report!
