SEAF Companion 0.17.2 Alpha

A Mod for Helldivers 2
SEAF Companion akl_mod_preview_image
SEAF Companion gives you Doc, a SEAF soldier who stays with you across missions. He drops in with you, follows you, fights beside you, ranks up the longer he survives and rides in your FRV. New in 0.17: the Sniper Squad, Doc plus two SEAF riflemen who hold fire until you mark targets and give the order.

IMPORTANT - read before installing

  • Single player only. Do not use it in multiplayer: other players see no turret gun, Doc jitters on their screens, and stratagem changes like these have disconnected players in the past.
  • Two stratagems are changed: the MD-6 Anti-Personnel Minefield delivers Doc instead of mines, and the M-102 Fast Recon Vehicle's rear gun becomes the automatic turret Doc can man. Your MG Sentry is untouched.
  • If you want either stratagem to work normally, turn the mod off (Mod Options Menu, or enabled=0 in the settings file).
  • Using S.E.A.F Call-In Stratagem Replacer? Set it to a stratagem other than the gunner FRV or the MD-6 minefield, and both mods work together.

Features

  • Doc drops in with you. Your MD-6 Anti-Personnel Minefield stratagem delivers a supply box with Doc standing beside it. Cooldown 60 seconds.
  • Call him again if he dies. A new Doc arrives with the same rank and XP. Only one Doc (or squad) at a time: calling it while he is alive brings just a supply box.
  • He follows you like a native SEAF soldier and fights with his own weapon.
  • Ranks and XP. Kills, following you and surviving missions earn XP; dying costs XP. 9 ranks, from Recruit to Sergeant Major. Each rank gives him more health: x1.5 at Recruit, up to x2.5 at Sergeant Major. Medic types also get a different uniform look at higher ranks.
  • Choose your soldier. 11 SEAF soldier types (medics, troopers, squad leaders, specialists, male and female voices) or one of the two Sniper Squads.
  • Doc on your ship. He stands in your quarters (only you see him). Press E next to him for his card (rank, XP, missions, kills, deaths). Press H on the card to change his soldier type for the next drop.
  • HUD. Bottom left: Doc's health, plus the gun's rounds when you are near your gunner FRV.
  • Stims heal him fully, to his ranked maximum health.
  • Bunkers. Hold one bunker button and Doc (if he is within 10 m) goes to the other one and presses it with you.

Sniper Squad (new)

Pick it on Doc's card on the ship (press H until it shows). The next MD-6 brings Doc plus two SEAF riflemen. Two versions:
  • SNIPER SQUAD - Doc + two riflemen: Doc is a normal soldier (medic by default) and fights on his own. The two riflemen are your snipers.
  • SNIPER SQUAD - all riflemen: Doc is a rifleman too and holds fire like the others, so all three only shoot what you mark.
How it works:
  • Sniper mode: the snipers hold fire, even when enemies are close.
  • Mark one or two enemies (your normal ping) and press H. Each sniper takes a marked target and fires.
  • The riflemen carry a suppressed R-72 Censor with anti-materiel numbers: 1000 damage, heavy armour penetration, no spread, and they see and engage out to 150 m.
  • Anti-tank backup: each rifleman also carries a GR-8 Recoilless. Mark a heavy (Bile Titan, Charger, Hulk...) and press H: they switch to the launcher and fire one rocket each. Like native SEAF launcher troops, they drop the empty launcher after the shot, so it is one rocket per soldier per drop.
  • Sniper mode can be switched off in Mod Options Menu: then they fight on their own like normal SEAF.

FRV rides

  • Get into an M-102 FRV or an M-103 Supply FRV and Doc takes the front passenger seat. With the Sniper Squad, the two riflemen take the rear left and rear right seats. Everyone gets out when you do.
  • Gunner mode (M-102 only). The M-102's rear gun becomes an automatic turret that looks like the M-102 gun (the model is included in this mod). Press R in the driver's seat to send Doc from his seat to the gun, and again to bring him back.
    • At the gun, Doc turns with it; it finds and shoots enemies on its own, up to 75 m away. It only fires while Doc is on it.
    • The belt keeps topping itself up, and the gun's kills count for you and for Doc.

Requirements

  • Bingus Shared Loader (the Lua addon loader).
  • Optional: Mod Options Menu for the in-game switches (mod on/off, sniper mode).
  • A mod manager, for example Helldivers 2 Mod Manager.
  • Made for game build 25480438. On other game versions every engine address is checked before use, and the mod switches the affected feature off instead of guessing.

Install

  1. Install Bingus Shared Loader.
  2. Add the SEAF Companion zip to your mod manager, deploy, and start the game.
  3. Bring the MD-6 Anti-Personnel Minefield in your loadout. Calling it in delivers Doc (or the squad).

Settings

In game: with Mod Options Menu installed, press Esc, open MODS, pick SEAF COMPANION: Enabled and Sniper mode.

Settings file: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hd2SeafCompanion\seaf_companion.cfg. It is created on first start and read when the game starts. Each setting is explained inside the file. The main ones:
  • soldier: which SEAF type Doc is, squad or squad_sniper (or press H on his card on the ship).
  • squad_doc: which soldier Doc is in the "Doc + two riflemen" squad (default medic).
  • sniper=1 / fire_key=h: sniper mode and its fire key.
  • squad_amr=1: the Censor with anti-materiel numbers; squad_launcher=1: the Recoilless backup.
  • ride=1: Doc and the squad ride in your FRV.
  • frv_autoturret=1: gunner mode on the M-102. Set it to 0 for the stock M-102 gun.
  • hud=1, ship=1, doc_cooldown=60.
Doc's rank and stats are kept in companion.cfg in the same folder. You can rename him there: name= is his full name on his card, short= is the name on the HUD.

Known limits

  • Single player only.
  • Doc takes over your MD-6 Anti-Personnel Minefield stratagem. Death costs him XP, but never a rank.
  • The Recoilless is one rocket per rifleman per drop: the game's SEAF launcher behaviour drops the launcher after its shot.
  • The bunker helper only works in your own game (as host).
  • Rank looks only change the three medic types.
  • With gunner mode on, every M-102 you call in carries the automatic turret, and it stays silent until Doc is on it (R).

Changelog

0.17.2 Alpha (since 0.11.2)
  • Sniper Squad: Doc plus two SEAF riflemen, in two versions (normal Doc, or Doc as a third sniper).
  • Sniper mode: snipers hold fire; mark enemies and press H to make them shoot.
  • R-72 Censor with anti-materiel numbers (1000 damage, heavy pen, no spread, 150 m) and a GR-8 Recoilless for marked heavies.
  • FRV seats: Doc in the front passenger seat, riflemen in the rear seats, in the M-102 and the M-103 Supply FRV.
  • R moves Doc to the M-102's gun and back; he now starts in the passenger seat.
  • Mod Options Menu: mod on/off and sniper mode in game.

Hey, I tested the new update, and the sniper squad is cool but I think their Censors having so much damage is crazy, I know they are supposed to help, but they were soloing everything wtf lmao

Also, the toggle for deactivate the sniper team don't work for me at all for some reason, I tried deactivate/activate it and even restarting the game but the squad would still deploy with snipers.

Also, since you were able to deploy several SEAFs in one stratagem, how about a normal complete SEAF squad option to choose? Like Medic, Leader, Support and Soldiers, that would be cool (I just don't know how they would work with a vehicle thou)
The toggle for the sniper team isnt in the mod menu, in the mod menu you can pick sniper mod which allows you to make your snipers hold their fire. To turn off the sniper squad you need to turn off the seaf companion itself, or if you want to switch to a different seaf you can cycle through using your ship's seaf npc. Normal seaf squad would be doable yeah.

I think 1000 damage, heavy armour penetration is waaaay too much and would make things boring and unchalleging.

For the best it should be the default Censor stats and up to 300m radius of firing

When the snipers die, they keep dropping recoilless rifles and their associated ammo packs. Is there any way to create a squad version equipped with standard rifles instead?

Yeah with the sniper mode toggled on they are supposed to shoot heavies on command but when its turned off they end up being cosmetics. Will work on squads to carry normal EATs instead. Decided on recoilless cause I wanted more damage against heavies.
