Link's Link To Memory (LLM) v0.5.1

A Mod for Helldivers 2
Link's Link To Memory (LLM) akl_mod_preview_image
LLM runs inside the game and takes its orders from a plain text file. An AI agent (or you, by hand) can read, search and change game memory, call the game's own functions and run Lua on the game thread while you play, with no restarts between experiments. Everything it writes is journaled and can be undone, and every game function it calls is logged.

It is a tool for people making mods. If you only want to play, you do not need it.

How it works
Write a commands.txt into %LOCALAPPDATA%\LinksLinkToMemory\ starting with batch <n> and one command a line. LLM runs it on the game thread and writes the output to results_<n>.txt; status.txt says what it is doing, and a file named stop ends whatever runs. The included Python driver (tools/llm.py) does all of that in one call. Nothing happens without a command file.

Commands
Memory: read, write (data or code, with readback), find (byte patterns with ?? wildcards across all memory), modfind (inside one module), dump (to a file), deref and ptr (follow pointer chains), regions, module and modread
Lua: eval (one line on the game thread) and run (a script from the scripts folder; a script can keep running every frame)
Safety net: journal and undo (every write, with the bytes it replaced), calls (every game function called, with its arguments), log on/off, and a timing line after every command
Chat: chat on/off (relay your own "hearsay" lines to the agent), chat say (a reply only you see), chat all (a real chat line every player sees)
Other: sleep, options (the mod manager options you ticked), tasks (background jobs: list or stop)

Script API
Scripts get memory reads and writes, typed readers (u8 to f64), the engine's hash maps, fingerprint-checked game function calls (a function whose code changed after a game update is never called), libraries with use(), files kept between sessions, background tasks, and HD2Runtime's API through runtime() when that mod is installed.

What the kit can do

Test weapons on real enemies
Spawn any enemy at your ping, up to 30 at once in rows: run enemies spawn trooper x10
Dummies stand still and never notice you, but still take damage, stagger, lose limbs and die. Switch them to passive, frozen or their normal AI whenever you like.
Calm the enemies already around you: run enemies mode dummy near 30
One of every enemy of a faction in rows: run enemy_line automatons
Enemies the mission did not bring are loaded first (solo, optional).

Run commands from the chat using the hearsay, no AI needed
Put a few commands in a text file and type hearsay command dummies (or hearsay c dummies) in the game chat. The answer shows up in your chat.
Examples included: dummies, calm, wild, a loadout switch, and a showcase.

Items and loadouts
Spawn any item in front of you by name, loading its model first if nobody brought it (solo, optional): run hd2_spawn portable hellbomb
Equip any primary, sidearm or throwable you own by name, as the armory does: run hd2_loadout primary liberator
Read and change your inventory, equip and drop slots, and hide, move or scale engine units.

Pings and pickups
See every player's pings: what each one marks, whose it is, and for an item, its exact entity and pickup state. Handy for bug reports.
Find backpacks and items around you with their pickup state, compare pickup records, and watch one live.

Find out what the game is doing
Census: everything within a radius of you, grouped by type and named (441 entity types: weapons, backpacks, enemies of every faction).
Actions: names every action you start, live (picking up, reloading, using a pack).
Watch a value every frame, or keep one held.
Stutter finder: frame times, which frames the mods' Lua ran long, and which mods took that time.
Package snapshots: what a mission has loaded, and the difference between two missions.

Talk with your squad
The agent can post real chat lines everyone sees. Other players' "hearsay" lines reach it as notes or questions, never as commands.

Demo scripts
The gun in your hand at three times its size, a backpack dropped and put on your back, and a ring of armed Portable Hellbombs (solo).

For mod makers
57 game addresses as code patterns, found again automatically after a game update (run hd2_resolve); a tool turns any address you find into a pattern of your own.
Tools to read the game's code from a dump: a disassembler, who references an address, who writes a field, and a crash dump reader that names the module and offset.
An offline test suite that runs LLM and every kit script against a fake game under the game's own LuaJIT.
A leak checker for your own releases (keys, personal paths, e-mail addresses, hidden image text).
README, a 10-step TUTORIAL with ready batches, and AGENTS.md: the rules and known traps, written for AI agents.

Requirements
Bingus Shared Loader
Optional: HD2Runtime (scripts can use its API)
Optional, for the tools and the driver: Python 3

Install
1. Install the mod zip with your mod manager, mod has som options so look at them.
2. Tick the options you want: LLM, Load missing models (solo), Hearsay commands.
3. Unpack the kit and copy its scripts and commands folders into %LOCALAPPDATA%\LinksLinkToMemory\
README.md and TUTORIAL.md in the kit explain the rest; AGENTS.md is written for AI agents.
ONLY "install Links-Link-to-Memory-x.x.x", "Links-Link-to-Memory-x.x.x-kit" contains the scripts and reading material for you or your AI, kit IS NOT A MOD.

Known limits
Spawned enemies cannot be despawned: kill them instead.
Enemies from another faction than the mission's may come without textures.
Enemy and model-loading spawns are solo only, unless you add together (other players may see stand-ins, and it is never allowed on the ship).
Sentries from stratagems cannot be spawned.

Credits
Bingus Shared Loader
HD2Runtime by skyeshade, for its research (names and tables)
Enemy Spawn Multiplier's documentation, for notes on the enemy director
MIT licence: use it, build on it, just mention it.

Use at your own risk: LLM changes a live online game's memory and CAN cause crashes.

No joke, this has been the single most powerful dev tool I've come across. Staggering how this isn't the #1 download. Fantastic work. Great fucking job dude. Saved me HOURS of manual probing.

I agree with the other guy that commented. This is another Rosetta Stone like the bingus shared loader. Works perfectly and I was able to come out with my drop gear mod in one long night, initially using this to start and as an investigative tool.

Thank you, I hoped it would do so.

It makes me very happy to hear that, I made this mostly by accident when making my other mod, second ammendment, I was sick of constantly reloading the game to test everything so I started looking into ways to live read and edit the game. Naturally, it got out of hand and became the current project. As I made it in tandem with ammendment it supercharged my ability too, however I know it is still in its infancy I'm sure.

Thank you too for the kind words, all I wanted was to do was to enable people to do even more cool stuff. Even the MIT license is just so I can find the mods that people worked on using it. I don't really care for credit to my name. Your mod is really good, btw.

I do have a request, for you three and for anyone that comes across this mod in the future however, please if you develop new tools, checks, or scripts send them to me. Currently LLM has one mod under its belt. I did my best to cover other use cases, but I'm only one person, so please contribute to this so that more people can make better mods too. If you do, I will add your name to a credit list right alongside mine. Thank you.

Just wanted to say how incredibly useful this tool has been. I'm currently developing an experimental mod that essentially turns the tactical map into a persistent, customisable radar that remains active during normal gameplay, while retaining the functionality of the full map.

The amount of development time this has saved me so far is a lot, to put it mildly. Being able to inspect live game memory, trace native behaviour, run targeted experiments and gather detailed results without constantly rebuilding the mod or restarting the game has been invaluable. It's helped me identify and resolve issues that would otherwise taken a lot more trial and error, particularly around the game's native map behaviour.

The project is still very much experimental, and there are some fairly difficult problems left to solve, but this tool has accelerated development considerably. I can't overstate how useful it's been, especially when working with parts of the game that aren't documented.

Great work, and a huge thanks for making this available. It's exactly the kind of development tool that makes these modding projects considerably more achievable.

Despite how good it is, it would never become #1 download. This is a tool for modders, not for mod users who make up the vast majority of download numbers.

This alone allowed me to setup my anticheat mod, thanks bro <3
Can't say I agree personally with your mod, but an dev kit is a dev kit. And honestly, more power to you and to those who want it. Glad it was useful.
