This mod is a functional modification for the game Helldivers 2. Its core objective is to alter the game's native orbital strike trajectory calculations, changing the original angled/oblique orbital strike rays to strike perpendicular (vertical) to the ground. This modification alters orbital weapons' impact areas, explosion points, and coverage patterns, optimizing the orbital strike experience across complex terrain and resolving the issue in the base game where angled trajectories are frequently obstructed by mountains, buildings, or other landscape features. The mod only modifies the orbital attack incidence vector parameters; it does not change weapon damage, blast radius, or other core combat balance values, preserving the game's original combat framework. 1. Introduction
In the vanilla mechanics of Helldivers 2, all types of orbital support strikes use an angled trajectory. When elevated terrain, cliff faces, buildings, or other obstacles exist in the combat area, orbital strike beams often collide prematurely with the terrain. This prevents explosions from triggering properly in the target zone, significantly reducing the utility of orbital support in missions with complex topography. To address this issue, this mod implements vertically incident orbital attack rays. Orbital strikes now project straight down along the ground surface normal vector, reducing strike failures caused by terrain obstructions, increasing orbital support reliability, and providing players with new tactical options.
2. Mod Feature Details
Core Function: Rewrites orbital strike trajectory calculations; all orbital support attack rays now impact perpendicular to the ground, with strike points precisely aligned to the beacon marker.
Feature Notes: Modifies only the trajectory angle of incidence. Parameters such as weapon damage, blast radius, and cooldowns remain identical to the base game, preserving vanilla balance.
