HD2 Anticheat watches what your own game already knows about the other players, compares it to the vanilla game, and lists anything that smells fishy on a small panel on the right side of the screen. It never changes the game, never acts on anyone, and never connects to anything. What you do with the information is up to you.

What it catches
Guns: fire rate above the gun's vanilla maximum, magazines or spare magazines bigger than vanilla, the Maxigun firing while its owner walks around. One-shot kills of big enemies that no vanilla weapon can do. Tanks: guns hitting far outside the hull's firing arc (turret rotation mods), automated reloads, tanks faster than vanilla, tanks driven from the wrong seat, guns firing with nobody in the gunner seat, stratagems called from a driver or gunner seat. Loadouts with two vehicles of the same kind.

Almost every check was tested in real missions with two game clients, one running the cheat mods. Checks are tuned to stay quiet when unsure: a missed cheater is better than a wrongly flagged player.

Using it
When the panel shows a player, it lists what they did. Page Down dismisses it as a false positive, End selects the next player. Findings are also written to %LOCALAPPDATA%\HD2AntiCheat\anticheat.log but the log never stores names or Steam IDs: players appear as PLAYER 1, PLAYER 2, numbered fresh each game. Got a false positive? Send that log. Don't want a log at all? Put LOG=false
in settings.txt
in the same folder. Or use the Mod Options Menu to disable.

Installation/Requirements
  • Requires Bingus Shared Loader (v18 or newer)
  • Install with HD2 Arsenal
  • Mod Options Menu, optional but allows for UI tuning
  • Mod Bindings Menu, also optional and allows for key rebinding
Hiding it with the game's HUD
The game's "hide HUD" key is unbound by default. If you bind it, bind "Hide / show the overlay" to the same key and both will hide and show together.

Known limits
Works best when you host. Stratagems from a tank are only judged when nobody else is on foot. New game patches can switch checks off until updated (the panel status says so).

I AM NOT THE FUN POLICE, I WILL NEVER CONDONE COLLECTING USERNAMES AND/OR WITCH HUNTING CHEATERS. THIS IS PURELY A TOOL TO DETECT.

What counts?

Anything that changes gameplay beyond vanilla: fire rates, magazines, Maxigun movement, tank handling, stratagems from vehicles, extra vehicles. That includes rebalance and "QoL" mods. Cosmetic, sound and UI mods don't affect anyone else, and this mod can't see them anyway. Want to play with gameplay mods? Great: host a private or friends-only lobby. Public lobbies are for players who expect the vanilla game.

Future?
  • More coverage of mods
  • Improve reliability

Did you bother actually testing your own mod? There are several instances I found after a quick test of about 10-15 minutes where innocent players would be kicked in-game. And, moreover, most of the things this mod checks are easily spoofed. Let me do a quick runthrough.
    • Fire rate checks are completely trivial to bypass, and all refill or infinite-ammo cheats evade it. Network jitter (lag), however, causes significant problems for innocent players above 60ms.
    • Peers own their ammo capacity. The host has no means of validating what the peer says is accurate. Again, easily evaded as seen above.
    • Spare magazine detection was just outright broken in testing. I couldn't even really get it to function properly.
    • One-shot kills fail to properly distinguish from vanilla gameplay. Dropships being removed while alive from the game, for example, will flag the last player to shoot it and boot them.
    • Off-arc tank guns also flag vanilla gameplay. And, moreover, this one doesn't even bother to check the person is flagging it is even in the tank.
    • Tank speed flags any innocent player where two lag-corrections occur under 60s.
    • Your tank seating code is also completely broken and reading the wrong addresses. A player who climbs into the driver, then exits and enters the gunner seat, can be flagged and booted because of this.
    • Automated reloads is trivially evaded with a small random delay.
    • Stratagem loadout checks were also trivially evaded because, again, the host does not validate peer claims.
I didn't bother going through any other checks because there was so much wrong that I just stopped there. This mod is harmful to innocent players while still enabling modders.

The only proper solution is a full-fledged detection mechanism, which as you said, does not exist. That is the whole reason I stopped development on my own.

It doesn't kick? Also this is literally the first version of the mod, it's a beta. Improving is like kinda the point. Thank you for your input, ill work on those holes (for those that can be fixed). Is it perfect? No. Will it ever be perfect? No. But it's a tool. If you kick every user that it goes off on, that is on you.

Don't blame the tool maker when the user uses it in a dumb way and causes damage. It helps those that want it and know how to read with basic critical thinking skills. The information is right there. It explains what it found. That's it.

The end-user is making decisions based on what your mod tells them. It is your mod's responsibility to be as accurate as possible so that people can make informed decisions. It's disingenuous to claim that the end-user has any capacity to make that determination beyond what the mod already tells them (and as has already been pointed out, is incorrect to begin with).

Ever since the Lua mod support dropped, I've been playing HD2 every night—I'm pushing close to 100 hours now—but I have never encountered a single player firing 380mm rounds from their guns. Not one.
I see those "purists" on Nexus whining that people installing god mods are ruining the experience, yet they can't produce a single example. It's just bizarre and laughable.

Honestly this, i have almost 800 hours, have never dowloaded these types of mods. And have NEVER come across the types of cheaters this mod and most Hellwhiners claim are "ruining the game".

What this really is, is just console players and purists (people inept at modding) being bitter about not having access to the same cool features mods provide.

This is a very hot topic, and I'd like to ask for people to keep it polite if there's any reply to this comment, or to try to be open minded about the situation in general. We are all here to express our thoughts and opinions on the subject, but don't forget that your points and opinions may get disconsidered if you're too passionate about the subject. With that out of the way, let's go for it.

1 - Some players may just want the vanilla experience, to which this may help discern players that are using mods and players that aren't;

2 - Some players just want to be aware of what others are using, which this mod has the potential to do, since the sky is the limit (althought it doesn't right now). To this situation, I will always refer to how Payday 2 dealt with mods, being a Payday 2 veteran, I can safely say that, yes, many mods were annoying to deal with in public lobbies, and they were way more proeminent, leading to the community becoming very trigger happy with kicking players or demanding to know which mods were being used. As time went on, the devs took the opportunity to create a feature that segregates Modded VS Unmodded lobbies, which was great.
As is, the mod states that it does not condone witch hunting, yet, the very premisse of the mod's name and nature of the topic at hand can incentivize the user of said mod to kick someone that they may find to be using mods, thus creating what Payday 2 went through, a scenario where modded users where shunned, but at the end of the day, it was the mods that kept the game alive and with renewed strength. Of course, mods can be anything, and it comes down to the modded user to delineate what is good for public use and what is not.

3 - The name "HD2 Anticheat" can influence someone to stirr a bad stigma towards players that are flagged as such, specially in its current state which does not detect things properly, or flags things that are just a part of the game as "suspicious", such as going downhill with a vehicle will likely flag a player, but that's just gravity (unconfirmed on this one, but a possibility I will test later. However, I've seen comments about it giving false flags). I've seen it happening in Payday 2, and if history taught me something, is that it happens again, and again.

4 - ArrowHead does not know how to balance things. We have a booster (expert extraction pilot) which is only activated once in the entire mission, while someone could bring something else which is more useful. Weapons are constantly overshadowed by others that are constantly relieable. This is a toxic meta scenario, where players are constantly forced to pick weapons that they don't necessarely want to use in order to play the game in a manner that isn't miserable. Modding, with the proper due regard to balancing in general, can fix that.

My thoughts
1 - I'd swap the name from HD2 Anticheat to HD2 Mod Detection or something like that.
2 - Once again, the mod has a lot of potential to help those that want to have a more vanilla experience. However, unless there's a way to segregate succesfully vanilla players that are using this mod from modded players, I don't see the end result being optimistic, in fact, I expect to see players kicking others or pointing fingers to them for using mods.
3 - Some mods could be worked with in order to restrict online play if they're in use, be it from the mod creator or even the framework creator's (bingus) whitelisting mods for online play and blacklisting mods for private lobbies only. Though, it may be too much for one person to handle, and I don't expect someone to burden themselves wtih this much work, perhaphs a group? I'm not entirely certain on this point either, due to the mentality of "who decides what is a good mod and who doesn't?" type of thing other than ArrowHead themselves, but then again, if we leave it to ArrowHead, we may get screwed all over again, let's not forget that they tend to buff things only if they're related to a new warbond, and even then, we may still get fine aged milk with new content.

wow ,some ones who can’t even play the game properly finally get a chance to act as righteous judges in a match, passing judgment on other players who clearly look like they’re “cheating.”

Says he's not the fun police, but (tries to) create a mod that detects mods that are fun. Strange strategy Chuck, let's see if it works out for him.

Ngl This mod does nothing other than cosmetics.
Tested with MODDED friend
did not detect anything. Told him to add cheat like 380mm HMG and other obvious modes. but no. this mod does nothing.
