Description
Echelon keeps every Helldivers 2 mod you download in one library, lets you sort them into profiles (think loadouts for your mods) and puts a whole profile into the game with one click. When you want a clean game again, one more click takes every mod back out.

Echelon is free, and every feature is for everyone. Nothing is locked.

Installation
  1. Download Echelon-Setup.exe and run it. It installs for your user only, so no admin rights are needed.
  2. Windows may say "Windows protected your PC" because Echelon is new and not code-signed yet. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. The first-time setup finds your game folder, asks you to accept the licence, and asks which online extras you want (all of them start off).
  4. Coming from HD2 Arsenal? Setup offers to bring over your mods, profiles, load order, separators, tags and option choices. Arsenal's own files aren't changed.
Updating: download the new installer here and run it over the old one. Your mods, profiles and settings stay where they are. If you turn on update checks in the setup or in Settings, Echelon shows an Update button when a new version is out. It only downloads when you click it, and it checks the download against its SHA-256 checksum first.

Checking your download: open a command prompt in the folder with the installer and run
Code:
certutil -hashfile Echelon-Setup.exe SHA256
The result should match the number in the .sha256 file.

Main features
  • Library: every mod as a picture card or in a compact list, with a details panel showing its description, options, size, which profiles use it, and its web page.
  • Profiles: load order, separators, tags and per-mod options. Switch between loadouts in a second.
  • One-click Deploy and Purge: Deploy puts exactly the open profile into the game. Purge takes every mod out, including ones installed by hand or by other tools.
  • Mod options: pick versions, colours and extras. Mods that ship their variants as folders get proper options too, and all-in-one packs get a switch per part.
  • Updating mods: when you add a newer version of a mod you already have, Echelon offers to replace the old one and keeps your option choices.
  • Bingus Shared Loader support: Echelon recognises the loader and the mods that need it, warns when a profile is missing it, and keeps the loader locked in the right spot so Bingus mods start.
  • Clash and load order checks: see when two mods change the same thing, which one wins, and which mods are completely hidden by others.
  • Game Folder Check: tells you if a game update or Steam's "Verify integrity" removed your mods.
  • Crash Finder: when the game crashes with mods on, it tests half of your mods at a time until it finds the one to blame.
  • Import from HD2 Arsenal: if a mod came as several versions without a manifest, Arsenal kept only the one picked back then. Echelon lists those mods under Check options so you can get the full download and choose again.
  • Share profiles as a short code (EC-XXXX-XXXX) or a link. Friends see exactly which mods they're missing.
  • Solo-only mods: some Lua mods change the game for everyone in the lobby. Mark them as solo only and they get a SOLO badge, plus a reminder to turn them off before public lobbies when you deploy.
  • Developer Suite for mod authors:
    • Mod Builder: build a mod with options and a manifest without writing any JSON.
    • Repatcher: keeps your own model and text mods working after a game update. Mods that need it get a NEEDS REPATCH badge.
    • Mod Inspector: see what's inside your mod, check it for common problems, and compare versions.
    • Retagger: a shortcut to HD2 Retagger by soulls00 for moving an armor look onto other armors. You get it from soulls00; Echelon only starts it.
The Repatcher and Mod Inspector are for your own mods. Before they open a mod, they ask you to confirm it's yours or that its author allows it.
  • Languages: English, Simplified Chinese and Japanese.

Requirements
  • Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit).
  • Helldivers 2. Echelon finds the game folder automatically, or asks you to point to it.
  • No other mods or tools needed, and no account: Echelon has no sign-in of any kind.

FAQ
Can I bring my mods over from HD2 Arsenal?
Yes. The first-time setup offers to import your mods, profiles, load order, separators, tags and option choices. To do it later, click the + button above the profile list and choose Import from Arsenal.... If Echelon can't find Arsenal's data (for example after you moved it), it lets you pick Arsenal's hd2a_data.json file yourself. Nothing in Arsenal is changed.

Can I go back to Arsenal, or use both?
Yes. Both put mods in the same game folder, so use one at a time: click Purge in the one you're leaving, then deploy from the other. When Echelon deploys, it clears every mod from the game folder first, so it never stacks on top of what another manager put there. The other manager may still show its mods as deployed until you purge there.

Can I download mods straight into Echelon?
Almost. Copy a mod's page link and press Ctrl+V in Echelon (or use Add mod > From a link). Echelon opens the page in your browser. Download the file there as usual, and Echelon picks it up from your Downloads folder and adds it, asking first when it can't tell which mod the file is. It also remembers the mod's web page. There's no one-click button, because Echelon doesn't sign in to any mod site. Direct links from Google Drive, Dropbox, GitHub and Discord are downloaded straight in.

Can it check for mod updates?
Not automatically. To check by hand, each mod shows the version you have, and right-click > Open web page takes you to its page (select several mods to open all their pages at once). When you add the new download, Echelon spots that it's an update and offers to replace the old one, keeping its place, tags, web page and option choices.

Does it go online?
Only if you turn it on. The update check for Echelon itself, translating mod descriptions, and sharing profiles are all off until you choose them. No accounts, no tracking, no ads.

What does Echelon do about mods with Lua scripts?
It tells you. Mods that contain Lua get a LUA badge and a notice when you add them. Some Lua mods change the game for everyone in the lobby, so you can mark those as solo only and Echelon reminds you before you deploy them. What you install is your choice: Echelon doesn't judge or block mods, and nothing about your mods is sent anywhere.

Why can't I move HD2 SmoothBoot below the Bingus loader?
It's already where it needs to be. Echelon keeps the Bingus loader as the very last mod and puts SmoothBoot directly above it, after every other Bingus mod. That gives the same result as placing it "below Bingus" in other managers, so you don't need to move it. To bring scattered Bingus mods together, right-click the Bingus section and choose Gather Bingus mods here.

The text is hard to read. Can I make it bigger?
Yes: Settings > Appearance > Text size, from 80% to 150%.

How do I see mod descriptions in my language?
Settings > General
: pick your language under Interface language, then tick Translate mod descriptions and options into the interface language. With the interface in English, this translates mods written in Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Russian. It uses the free MyMemory service, so it stays off until you turn it on.

How do I put a mod into another profile?
Inside a profile, click the ⋮ on a mod and choose Copy to profiles.... It works with several mods selected. When you add new mods, Echelon asks which profiles they go into; if it doesn't, tick Ask which profiles when adding mods at the top of the Library page.

Does it work on Linux?
There's no Linux version, but users report the Windows version running through Proton: open protontricks, pick Helldivers 2, choose "run arbitrary executable" and run the Echelon installer, then start Echelon from its install folder inside the game's prefix. The Start game button doesn't work there, so launch the game from Steam. If you use the Linux version of HD2 Arsenal, Echelon looks for its data by itself when you import. This is community-tested, not official.

My antivirus flagged it.
Some antivirus programs flag apps built with Python by mistake, and it can happen again with a new version. Check the installer against its .sha256 file, and post in the discussion thread with the antivirus name so it can be reported as a false positive.

Will it mess up my mods or my game?
Echelon never edits your mod files in place. It keeps its own copy of each mod. Deploy only touches mod files in the game's data folder, and Purge takes them all out again.

Something went wrong. How do I report it?
Post in this page's discussion thread and attach your latest log from %APPDATA%\Echelon\logs. Settings > System > About shows the exact path.

Does this one take you to both Nexusmods and Ayakamods? Also, is there a way to download mods straight to the mod manager like Arsenal can do? The main thing I like about Arsenal is being able to download straight to the mod manager. It would be nice to also do this for Ayaka, and open the web page. If your mod manager could do that, that would be amazing and I'm sold. If not, I'd prefer this as a request for the update

Yes to the first part. Right-click a mod and choose Open web page, and it takes you to that mod's page on whichever site it came from. Mods downloaded from Nexus usually get their link on their own from the file name; for AyakaMods mods, use Set web page... once and Echelon remembers it.

For downloading: there's no one-click button, because Echelon doesn't sign in to any mod site. What it has is Add from link. Paste a Nexus mod page link and Echelon opens the page, waits for your download to finish, then adds the file for you. Direct links from Google Drive, Dropbox, GitHub and Discord are downloaded straight in. You can also drag a downloaded file onto the window.

AyakaMods links don't work with Add from link yet. That's already on my list for the next update, so I've noted your request with it. Thanks for asking!

Hello, I don't know much about this so I wanna ask, even if it might be redundant! What makes this different from Arsenal and why should I use this over it?

Fair question, and not redundant at all!

I won't tell you to use it over Arsenal. Arsenal is a good manager, and I used it myself since it came about before I started this. Credit where it's due!

What I can tell you is what Echelon is: a mod manager I built the way I wanted one to work. Profiles, one-click deploy and purge, mod options, load order and clash checks, and it keeps Bingus mods and the loader in the right order for you. It tells you when a mod contains Lua. It doesn't use accounts, and it only goes online for features you turn on yourself.

The easiest way to answer "which is better for me" is to try it. Echelon can import your mods, profiles and load order from Arsenal, and it doesn't change anything in Arsenal, so you can go back whenever you like. Use whichever one feels right for you. <3

Ah, coming back to it a day later and re-launching...

The installed mods works fine (Added the Bingus QOL mods yesterday) but running the mod loader again today, it did the first time setup again, and doesn't seem to recognise the previously added mods, and reports that there are no mods installed.
So it seems to work fine, as long as you're doing a one-shot install...

Correction - it does detect the installed mods, but does not recognise that they were installed by the mod manager.

Thanks for coming back with this, it's useful.

I think Echelon was started in a different Wine prefix the second time. It keeps its library and settings in AppData\Roaming\Echelon, and under Proton that folder lives inside the game's prefix. Started another way (plain Wine, a shortcut, another launcher), it looks in a different AppData, finds nothing, and runs first-time setup again. The mods in the game folder are still there, which is why it sees them but doesn't know they're its own.

Two things to check:
1. How did you start it the second time? The same protontricks route as the install, or something else?
2. Does this file exist?
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/553850/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Echelon/state.json

If it does, your library is safe. Starting Echelon inside the game's prefix should bring it back, for example:
protontricks-launch --appid 553850 /path/to/Echelon.exe

Until then, I'd hold off on Deploy or Purge in the empty copy, since both clear the mods that are in the game folder.

And since I can't test Linux myself, this is my best reading of the situation. If the file isn't there, let me know and I'll try to help you dig further

A browser extension isn't planned for the foreseeable future. I'd like to keep Echelon as one app that doesn't need anything installed in your browser. Chrome extensions also come with a lot of red tape on my side, and packaging a second product isn't something I'm willing to take on right now.

The next update gets close to it another way, though. Paste a mod's page link into Add from link (or press Ctrl+V in Echelon with the link copied), download the file in your browser as usual, and Echelon picks it up from your Downloads folder and asks whether to add it. That already works for Nexus links, and AyakaMods links are being added.

I'm also looking at ways to make that even quicker, so hopefully we can come to a middle ground!

I have no idea how to import from arsenal to echelon on linux. I've fought with it to finally pin it to task manager with an Icon and now I'm stuck here

EDIT: oh yeah, the startup had 5 steps,
-Language
-EULA
-Game Location
-Mod folder
-Updates/translation

nowhere there was a way to import

Sorry about that, this one's a gap on my side, not something you're doing wrong... :/

Echelon looks for Arsenal's data in the same Windows profile it runs in. On Linux the two end up in different places, so the Import from Arsenal option never shows up. I'll fix that in the next update by letting you point Echelon at Arsenal's data yourself.

Until then, you can add your mods directly: drag the mod archives or folders onto the Echelon window. That brings the mods in, though not your Arsenal profiles or load order.

Could you tell me how you run Arsenal on Linux (through Proton or Wine, or another way) and roughly where its hd2arsenal folder lives? That will help me make sure the fix works for your setup.

running through their .appimage

used gearlever to pin it to taskbar

the mods live here /home/Hekadem[or other name, depending on what name people set up]/.config/hd2arsenal/
and something I've noticed, not sure if it's just my linux distro(bazzite) but it seems to use the skewed line that go the other way (what are they called? slash and backslash? which one is which?)

EDIT: for some reason the launcher refuses to let me set smoothboot below bingus, so I think I'll wait untill I can successfully import from arsenal.

Otherwise I love the CLASH resolution, letting you automagically let a mod win or just to disable a mod

Could you possibly make the crash finder option have some mods that you can select to load necessarily? Also, an option to only test the LUA mods would be great! Thank you for your continued development of this great mod loader!

Like a few others below, I'd like to request for auto updates for Ayaka and Nexus Mods. Updating from any other popular mod sites would be a nice bonus. Regarding the privacy concerns, maybe display a privacy notice with an auto-update toggle?
