A Mod for Helldivers 2
HD2Runtime akl_mod_preview_image
HD2Runtime requires BingusSharedLoader 18 or later

ABOUT PUBLIC MATCHMAKING
its enabled again. i apologies for any troubles the initial released had caused.

here be dragons

if you encounter crashes with this in public lobbies its highly likely to be some of the experimented features that REQUIRE everyone in the lobby to have runtime installed to work correctly and safely

GameGuard:
some people have reported the recent 0.30.0 releases of hd2r has caused gameguard to refuse to boot. this is likely due to the mouse scroll wheel hook and can be disabled in your mod loader

Always Give Bingus Shared Loader Higher Load Priority Than HD2Runtime

Recommended Runtime Mods

Making a Mod with HD2Runtime

HD2Runtime is installed once and shared by mods that use it.

Creating a mod

Recommended Tool:
https://github.com/SkyeShade/HD2Runtime-ModBuilder/releases

1790642443139.png

Runtime Modbuilder is a tool i made specifically to lower the barrier of entry to modding this game.

Warning:
Some features are still experimental, and a few values may not map perfectly yet.

Manual Option:

1. Download and extract HD2Runtime-ModTemplate-<version>.zip from the github release page
2. Open the extracted folder in Rider or another code editor
3. Edit hd2runtime.json
- Change the mod name
- Change the resource ID to something unique, for example:
mods/yourname/my_mod
- Set the required HD2Runtime version for the features you use
4. Edit src/addon.lua
5. Run build.cmd
6. Import the ZIP created in the build folder into Arsenal or your mod manager
7. Enable Bingus Shared Loader, HD2Runtime, and your mod, then deploy and restart the game

Very Basic example

1790594165038.png

expect is the vanilla value Runtime expects before writing. Copy it from the SDK capability metadata; don’t guess it.

This changes the Liberator Concussive fire rate from its expected vanilla value of 400 RPM to 1100 RPM.

How do I know what values I can edit?

Download the HD2Runtime SDK from the github release and look inside its capability files.

Useful files include:

PlayerWeaponAuthoringCapabilities.json -> primary and secondary weapons
SupportWeaponAuthoringCapabilities.json ->support weapons
StratagemAuthoringCapabilities.json -> stratagems and deployed entities
VehicleAuthoringCapabilities.json -> vehicles
BackpackAuthoringCapabilities.json -> backpacks
MagazineAttachmentCapabilities.json -> magazine attachments

These files tell you:

- supported object names
- editable fields
- vanilla/default values
- whether a field is writable
- whether the edit affects shared data
- whether special safety acknowledgement flags are required

The expect value should normally come from the published baseline in these files. Do not guess it.

HD2Runtime checks the expected value before writing. If the game updated, another mod changed the value, or the target no longer matches what Runtime expects, the write is rejected instead of blindly modifying memory.

Useful operations

hd2.patch(...) -> applies one guarded change.

hd2.ensure(...) -> keeps a change applied if the game later resets it.

hd2.transaction(...) -> changes several fields on the same object together.

hd2.plan(...) -> coordinates changes across multiple objects.

Logs

If your mod does not work, check:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\CowboyBingus\Helldivers2\Logs\

Useful files:

BingusSharedLoader.log
HD2Runtime.log

APPLIED means Runtime successfully changed the value.

ALREADY_DESIRED means the value was already what your mod requested.

Found a bug?
Bugs are inevitable in a project as large as HD2Runtime, especially while it is still in early development.

If you find a bug or incompatibility, please reach out to me or submit an issue report on GitHub so I can investigate it and, if possible, implement a fix.

Missing feature?

If you think HD2Runtime is missing a feature or you have an idea for a new addition, feel free to reach out to me here. Please avoid opening GitHub issues for feature requests unless the request is specifically related to an existing issue.

HD2Runtime is intended for private, friends only, invite only, and other controlled modded sessions where all participants have chosen to use mods.

so whats the deets on this update? your blurb mentions potential crashes due to experimental features, a gameguard conflict with scroll wheel hook and somewhere people talking about performance drops, is it safe to update from .28.1 ? will i still be able to play with my friends?
performance drops should be resolved. at least ive not gotten any more reports and it runs great for me and the people in my discord

gameguard conflict is something i had reported but i could never confirm it as it resolved on its own for them. but i added an option in whatever modloader you use regardless to toggle something that MIGHT have caused it

the experimental features are clearly labeled and the warning that it might crash people is if you use them and your friends are not also running the same version of HD2Runtime.
the crashes are mostly about bringing custom stratagems into the game with unmodded players, but ive provided a lot of safety checks since to auto disable the things that are unstable if it detects a lobby thats at risk

Hi
Could anyone advise me on how to translate the item names on the left panel (Stratagems, weapons, armor, etc.) into Chinese?

I tried editing the localization files, but it didn't seem to have any effect on the UI list. In the template files, most replaceable fields don't have corresponding values either. I am relatively new to modding, so I wrote a Python script to scrape what was missing from the templates, but there are still many entries that I can only change one by one manually.

Is there a better or more efficient way/workflow to batch translate these entries? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello, thank you for great work!
I have a couple of question for mod creating since I couldn't figure it out on my own nor with a help of DeepSeek:
  1. Is there a way to detect in-game pause? I'm using ui-overlay options and I can't find any event that would be act like a pause because I want to hide the UI while user is in options or in pause in general.
  2. Is there a way to look at player's limg health? You can see your current and max hp, you can heal and injure limbs like in that one test mod you attached but can't see the hp?
  3. Maybe you could add custom Lua console right into the Runtime Editor? It would greatly help for debugging since I only now know hot to properly print logs (for that you have to have a separate button that will dump all the info into logs and apparently Lua tables a paint in the butt to properly print out)
Also have Nexus mods deleted Runtime from there or have you never posted it there? I think it would be more convinient to also have a link on Nexus.

Also forgot - 4. Instructions on UI say that game's own UI should always be above any modded ones but it's the opposite. Any created rectangles or text I've added are always on top.
5. Can you add auto increase for patches - like every time you rebuild your project it increases it's patch counter by 0.0.1 (maybe you can just check 3 boxes for each major.minor.patch to increase).

I've had to stop using this mod because it prevents my HD2 game from booting up when I run other mods.
